The Digilent 2FT (D2FT) FPGA-based development board (D2FT) makes an excellent prototyping platform for almost any digital circuit or system, including complex circuits lik microcontrollers and DSPs. The D2FT board features a 400K-gate Xilinx Spartan 2E XC2S400E FPGA in an FT256 package that provides 168 user I/Os. All available I/O signals are routed either to the expansion connectors, or to the ports and other on-board devices. Nearly all I/O signals routed to the peripheral connectors are unique, so a greater number of independant peripheral boards can be accomodated with the D2FT.

The D2FT also contains a socket for a JTAG-programmable Flash-based ROM, so designs can easily be made non-volatile. A single on-board pushbutton and LED allow for quick circuit and device programming checks, as well as basic I/O (e.g., for reset and status). The D2TF board mates with several existing peripheral boards so that entire digital systems can be quickly and easily constructed. The D2FT board works seamlessly with the free WebPack CAD tools, and it ships with a programming cable and power supply, so projects can be implemented immediately, without the need for any other components or expenses.
